Music at St Marys
Hello, and welcome to St Mary's Choir's web page. Our choir these days has around thirty members, adults and children, and we aim to preserve the fine musical tradition which this church has enjoyed for many centuries. We lead the regular Sunday morning service, and also sing choral evensong at high days and festivals. Many of the children in the choir attend St Marys School or St Edmunds School, and others come from some distance to sing in the district's premier church choir. We sing a mixed repertoire of old favourites like Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and new material like the beautiful Irish Blessing by Bob Chilcott.

Stephen Yarrow is Director of Music here. He first held the post as a student in the eighties, and again in the early nineties. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, an Associate of the Royal College of Organists, and an LRAM singing teacher, so he knows a thing or two.

Amongst our members is another local singing teacher, Jean Pearson, who helps to recruit and coach new members. She also helps to organise social events such as ten-pin bowling for the youngsters and keeps the Director of Music in order.

Would YOU like to join our choir? You don't need any experience, just be keen to enjoy singing with the best church choir in the area. Email on the link for more info. Or use the links to the left to find out more for yourself. Thanks for visiting - come again soon!
